Long before the first golfer arrives, the course is already in motion. This month, step into a Day-in-the-Life of our Turf Team and discover the work, precision and expertise that go into every round.

At 4:15 AM, the Turf Team is in. Coffee is brewing, the pumphouse pressures are checked and the morning plan takes shape.

By 5:00 AM, the Superintendents are on the course—checking green moisture levels, changing pins, spraying pesticides, fungicides and fertilizers where needed and getting to work across every playing surface.

From 5:30 AM to 11:00 AM, the daily transformation happens. Greens are cut seven days a week, fairways three times, tees twice, and approaches and collars three times. Rough is maintained one to two times weekly, while greens are rolled three times a week.

Around 8:30 AM, primary tasks are complete and the second phase begins. Bunkers are raked, trees and edges are trimmed, and divots are repaired. A check-in with the mechanic confirms all equipment is running smoothly. A full course tour follows, ensuring every detail is ready for play.

From 12:00 PM to 2:30PM, the afternoon brings irrigation repairs, projects, and fine-tuning. 

By 3:00 PM, tomorrow’s plan is already on the board, before today is even finished. Priorities are set, assignments are made, and the plan is in place.

And then it all starts again.

Seven days a week. No shortcuts. No detail overlooked. Because exceptional golf doesn't happen by chance.

August on the Course

With continuing heat and dry conditions, maintaining healthy, resilient turf remains a priority. Timely rainfall, strategic irrigation and hand watering have helped us navigate the summer, and we’re optimistic about the additional rain in the forecast.

This month, our focus has been preparing the greens for the Club Championships and late summer golf. Weather permitting, verticutting and topdressing will help improve smoothness and green speeds, followed by another round of venting after the Championships to promote oxygen exchange and support turf health through the remainder of summer.

We’re also continuing targeted work on several fairways experiencing increased disease pressure. Fungicide, iron and fertilizer applications are supporting recovery, while we evaluate longer-term soil improvements designed to build stronger, more resilient turf.

Project Progress

Several projects continue to move forward. Remaining stumps from last year’s tree removals have been ground and overseeded, with those areas continuing to establish. Work on Hole 8 approach is also progressing well, with strong germination following the removal of the small bunker and good sod establishment along the previously washed-out cart path.

Following the July 1st storm, two large willow trees that fell into Trout Creek between Holes 10 and 18 are scheduled for removal in early August. This important work will help maintain water flow and reduce potential flooding concerns during future significant rainfall.
