Golf Fitness Academy - 'N' Posture
An ideal swing characteristic that helps setup the entire golf swing.
Previously, we have discussed the negative effects of poor posture at address on the golf swing. This week we look at an ideal swing characteristic called N-Posture and how it helps to set up the entire golf swing.
A stable neutral pelvic posture – or N-Posture, occurs when the player addresses the ball with the correct amount of pelvic tilt. The player flexes at the knees and hips while maintaining a flat back and engaging their abdominal and glute muscles. When it comes to the golf swing the core is king. The ability to properly engage the abdominals and glutes in order to stabilize the pelvis and spine allows a player to separate their upper body from lower body – leading to an efficient transfer of force from lower body to upper body. Setting up in N-Posture at address improves a player’s chances of maintaining their spine angle throughout the golf swing in addition to having more power, consistency and accuracy.

C-Posture, N-Posture, S-Posture
How much pelvic tilt is enough? How much is too much? When we look at the three examples above, we can see that in the centre photo the player has the correct amount of pelvic tilt. There is minimal or no curvature between the low back and the line. A player can place a golf club on their back when at address to see if they have correct amount of pelvic tilt.
It is estimated that only four in ten players has N-Posture at address.
Finding the correct amount of pelvic tilt and engaging the abdominals can be challenging. Click on the link(s) below to find out how.
